We also offer career services for all of our students to help them get started in their new careers!

What is a Medical Office Administrator?

A Medical Office Administrator is an allied health professional who supports the clerical work of a medical office. This includes communicating with clients, working with insurance companies, performing medical billing and coding, managing the supplies needed to run the medical office, and more!  You may have seen a Medical Office Administrator when you first check in at your doctor’s office!

What is a Medical Assistant?

A Medical Assistant is an allied health professional who supports the work of licensed health professionals in clinical settings. Medical Assistants administer shots, take blood, participate in lab work, take vitals, and do much more! This role is hands-on with patients. Many aspects of what a Medical Assistant does is determined by the type of medical office they work in. You may have seen a medical assistant when you get your height and weight measured at the doctor’s office before you see the physician!

Which Program is Right for You?

One of the first things you want to consider when deciding which program and career path is right for you is how you manage around blood. The Medical Assistant role is a position where you will be very hands-on with patients. This includes drawing blood, administering shots, and may even involve performing small procedures like removing sutures. If you think you are ready for these responsibilities the Medical Assistant program is right for you! If you are interested in joining the medical field but do not want to be hands-on with patients the Medical Office Administration program is the best program for you! With Medical Office Administration communication with patients is key. You still get to work with patients in a medical setting but do not have to work with blood or fluids.
